And only a few hours! After a long five-year hiatus, the seventh edition of the T20 World Cup is about to unfold. The biggest Twenty20 cricket event is set to take place in Oman and the United Arab Emirates with the participation of 16 countries.

Hosts Oman and Papua New Guinea will meet in the opening match on Sunday. Bangladesh and Scotland will play in the next match on the same day. Before starting the battle on the field, let’s find out all the important information about this year’s T20 World Cup:

When will the game start?
This year’s edition of the World Cup is starting from October 16 with two matches on the first day. The month-long tournament will be held on November 14.

Who hosts the World
Cup The Indian Cricket Board is the host of this year’s World Cup. The game will be held in the United Arab Emirates and Oman. The decision was taken last June due to the situation in India’s Covid-19 and the possibility of a third wave of corona in the country.

Type of play The
tournament will be held in two phases. Eight teams will play in the first round divided into two groups.

Group A: Sri Lanka, Ireland, Netherlands and Namibia
Group B: Bangladesh, Scotland, Papua New Guinea and Oman

Each team will play its group opponent once. The top two teams in each group will play in the Super Twelve after playing 12 matches in Al Amarat, Sharjah and Dubai. There they will join the top eight teams in the T20 rankings.

In the Super Twelve, the teams will again be divided into two groups.

Group 1: England, Australia, South Africa, West Indies, A1 and B2
Group 2: India, Pakistan, New Zealand, Afghanistan, B1 and B2

Again each team will play their group opponent once. The 30 matches of this episode will be held in Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The top two teams from each group will play in the semifinals.

The point system of the game and the determination of the outcome of the tie match will result in the
winning team receiving two points in each round, one point for the abandoned match without a tie and zero and zero points for the rate. If two or more teams score equal points in their group, the team will be given priority considering the following aspects:

– Number of wins
– Net run rate –
Head to head result (first point, then net run rate in that game)
– 1st place / Super Twelve

Will there be DRS or not?
This is the first time the ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup will have an umpire decision review system. Each team will be able to apply for review twice in an innings. The rules have been in place for international Twenty20 matches since the epidemic. Earlier, there was one review in every innings.

What will happen if the match is tied?
If the match is tied, the teams will play super over. If there is a tie in the super match, then it will continue like this till any one team wins. Match tie will also be declared if Super Over is not possible due to weather conditions and time constraints. In this case, each team will be given one point.

If no result is achieved during the semifinals (or the match is abandoned), the team that is at the top of the Super Twelve round will advance to the final. In the event of a similar incident in the final, both teams will be declared joint winners.

Is there a reserve day for bad weather?
There is no reserve day for group stage play. There are reserve days for semifinals and finals only. Match officials will try to finish the game on the scheduled day. If not, the game will be held on Resort Day.

If the length of the match is reduced due to rain or any other reason, a minimum of five overs must be bowled in each innings to determine the result in the group stage. Minimum ten overs for semifinals and finals.

Prizes for the winners There is a prize
money of ৬ 1.8 million for the champion team of this year’s World Cup. The runners-up team will get half of that, ৮ 8 million. For the two teams that were eliminated from the semi-finals, there is 4 lakh dollars.

Are spectators allowed to appear on the field?
A small number of spectators have been allowed to enter the field. A temporary gallery with a capacity of 3,000 has been built at Al Amarat Stadium in Oman. The government of Oman has made it mandatory for all those entering the country and those who want to watch the game in the stadium to be vaccinated. All venues in the UAE will be open to visitors for up to 70% of the maximum capacity. It is mandatory to take two doses of vaccine to enter the Abu Dhabi Stadium. Dubai and Sharjah do not need it. Visitors must wear masks at all venues.
